We are informing you, in case you were unaware, that the Provincial government has deemed the Real Estate industry as an essential service. Let’s be clear as to what that means. There are numerous essential services that we rely on in order to maintain the fundamentals for a quality of life in this country. These essential services include food, clothing, shelter, transportation and communication and all services required to maintain those essentials. We are in the shelter business and our industry has been a responsible guardian in helping support, promote and maintain this necessity.

The Real Estate industry has been allowed to continue to operate in order to provide a much-needed service at a time that our services may be most required. However, let’s be clear, this does not mean business as usual. This means that while taking all of the required precautionary measures, we have been leaving our offices closed to the public, not allowing open houses, doing every part of our work remotely as much as possible, so that we can still assist those clients we have that may be in a critical situation. For example, the sellers who have already sold but haven’t purchased yet and will become homeless. The buyers who have bought prior to selling which would leave them in a financial crisis. We have seen significant social media criticism for the governments decision as the authors believe our industry is focused around the compensation we receive as opposed to the valuable and much needed service we provide. This is most certainly not the case. We genuinely care about our individual clients needs.

Each clients situation is unique. This ruling allows us to continue to help those in dire need where we can while still practicing social distancing and all the rules and regulations set out by our government and the World Health Organization. This also allows our BC Land Registry and solicitors to continue to close transactions that have already completed so that clients can move on to their new normal. We are strongly encouraging remote, electronic and virtual business as much as humanly possible during this Pandemic.
